Rock's Darkest Days TNA#7 Epica

Mezzo-soprano
Simone Simons
It has often been said that Heavy Metal just involves lots of shouting. I found this offensive as most of the bands I grew up with had bona fide vocalists, often operating within the operatic scales - especially during the screaming parts as Bruce Dickinson showed. More recently I have been knocked senseless by Huntress and the scantily clad lead singer Penelope Tuesdae who has the lungs of a Warrior Goddess (and the silicone implants to match). Traditional Metal musicians were often classically trained and it's good to see that tradition still continues.

Dutch Symphonic Metal band Epica, fronted by mezzo-soprano Simone Simons (right) are just one of those that continue this fine tradition. The first track does have an Evanescence feel to it but I highly recommend checking out their catalogue and the session which Cry for the Moon is taken from.
